The Firm on cellulite

Cellulite is the term used for uneven fat deposits under the skin that cause the skin to have a dimpled “orange peel” or “cottage cheese” appearance

Nine out of ten women have some form of dimples (unfortunately not the cute variety found on the face) which are pockets of fat pushed up against connective tissue under the skin, predominately found on bottoms, thighs and even upper arms.

Cellulite can be caused by numerous factors:

  • Genetics
  • Dehydration
  • Hormones
  • Poor diet
  • Sitting down for long period of times (this stops the circulation around your butt and thighs)

So, what are the best ways to smooth out cellulite?

Put down the salt shaker & lollies

Forget the chips and chocolate, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but diet- particularly salt and sugar intake- plays a huge role in the appearance of cellulite.

Sugar is stored in fat cells, causing them to expand, while salt causes water retention which makes the appearance of dimples look worse.

Make sure your diet also consists of plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

MASSAGE

Dry brushing is an old school, yet proven way to rev up circulation and promote lymphatic drainage – debloating to create a firmer, smoother appearance. Try sweeping a coarse body brush down dry legs each morning.

Drink more water!

Yet another great reason to drink more water!

Drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day will help to flush out toxins and other wastes.

Hydrating your body also keeps your skin cells looking fresh and renewed, which can reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Strength training to increase muscle tone

As cellulite can stem from an imbalance of muscle tissue and fat tissue, building lean muscle is just as important in treating the appearance of cellulite as losing fat is.

Toning your muscles helps give your body a smooth, firm appearance, whereas weak or flaccid muscles can look bumpy and uneven.

Make sure your strength training routines include lots of squats, lunges and deadlifts for best results.

Do creams work?

Creams and gels laced with caffeine stimulate and dehydrate fat cells, shrinking them for a temporary (yep, you heard the catch) smoothing effect.

Unfortunately there is no magic potion or quick fix!
